
Smithfield, N.C. – The Junior Women’s League of Smithfield (JWL) is now accepting applications for its 2026 High School Scholarship. Two $1,000 scholarships will be awarded to female high school seniors residing in Johnston County who demonstrate academic excellence, leadership, and community involvement.
Applicants must:
- Be a female high school senior attending a public, private, or charter school in Johnston County.
- Plan to enroll in an accredited postsecondary institution in Fall 2026.
- Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0.
- Show a strong record of volunteer service.
applications will not be considered. Finalists must attend a virtual interview on March 14, and
recipients will be announced by April 1. Recipients will be recognized at JWL’s
General Membership Meeting on May 21 at 7 PM at the Johnston Medical Mall in Smithfield.
Established in 2019, the JWL Scholarship supports young women in Johnston County by
fostering leadership and academic achievement. Since its inception, JWL has awarded $13,000
in scholarships to 19 recipients, thanks to the generous support of community members and
sponsors.

The Junior Womens League of Smithfield (JWL) is a non-profit organization of women
committed to promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women, and improving the
community through the effective action of trained volunteers. Our organization was founded in
Smithfield, but is dedicated to the betterment of all communities within Johnston County. Since
the League’s inception in 2015, JWL has awarded nearly $195,000 in Community Impact Grants
to Johnston County nonprofit organizations, league initiatives and Student Scholarships and
completed more than 19,000 hours of community service.
