Smithfield, N.C. -- The Junior Women’s League of Smithfield has awarded scholarships to five
incredible young women who are seniors at Johnston County high schools.
The Junior Women’s League of Smithfield established the JWL Scholarship in 2019 to advance
its mission of fostering women’s leadership by empowering young women in our community to
achieve their full academic potential. The Grants and Scholarship Committee is dedicated to
recognizing outstanding young women in the Johnston County community who demonstrate a
strong commitment to personal growth, supporting others, and making a meaningful impact
through academic excellence, leadership, and community involvement.
Class of 2026 scholarship awards include:

● $1,000 scholarship to Madison Moore (Clayton High School)
● $1,000 scholarship to Peyton Luxford (Corinth Holders High School)
● $500 scholarship to Ava Pyrtle (Clayton High School)
● $250 scholarship to Lillian Mizner (Smithfield-Selma High School)
● $250 scholarship to Symphony Murray (American Leadership Academy)
“The committee had its work cut out for us throughout the application process - from thirty applicants, twenty were selected for interviews. The young ladies interviewed were so poised, well spoken, received glowing recommendations from teachers, advisors, and community leaders, and are already having an incredible impact on Johnston County and beyond,” stated Sarah Edwards, JWL Grants & Scholarship Committee chair. “We cannot wait to see the impact that these young ladies will have in college and beyond, and hope that if they return to Johnston County, they will become members of and leaders in the League.”
