Smithfield, N.C.- Friends and family packed Pine Level Town Hall today to celebrate former County Commissioner Tony Braswell and to take part in the official dedication ceremony of a bridge named in honor of the late Commissioner. Located on U.S. 70 Business East at the Peedin Street Extension in Pine Level, the bridge honors the Vietnam War veteran and dedicated public servant.
Several elected officials and former colleagues attended this morning’s ceremony, including Chairman Butch Lawter, who shared his reflections on working alongside Commissioner Braswell. Mr. Braswell’s son, Todd Braswell, spoke about his father’s legacy, emphasizing how he was a pillar for his family and the community. Representatives from Tony’s American Legion Post 405 presented the flags during the dedication, and the ceremony was emceed by Leo Daughtry from NCDOT. Pine Level Mayor Jeff Holt also took the opportunity to share fond memories of Mr. Braswell, including the time he coached Holt’s little league baseball team.
Commissioner Braswell was deeply involved in numerous boards, community organizations, and youth programs, always working to give back to his community. He also served as Pine Level Mayor and as a Johnston County Commissioner for nearly two decades. The bridge is a meaningful tribute to his lasting impact on Johnston County.
