The Greater Smithfield-Selma Area Chamber of Commerce held its 46th Annual Meeting on January 25 where it recognized a number of outstanding local citizens.
The following awards were presented:
Citizen of the Year, sponsored by Woody's Computing Service - Rep. Leo Daughtry of Smithfield, who will be completing a 28 year career in the North Carolina General Assembly in 2016
Distinguished Citizens (two) for long-time service to the community, sponsored by Woody's Computing Service - Mike Parrish of Selma, an owner of Parrish Funeral Home and Kim Mitchell McCullers, owner of Mitchell Temporary Services in Smithfield.
Chamber Athena Award, for support of women in business and the professions, sponsored by Corestaff Services - Doris Huebner, owner/operator of several McDonald's franchises in Johnston County.
Jimmy Creech Small Business Persons of the Year, sponsored by Stancil Oil Company - Daniel and Vickie Evans, Evans Jewelers, who recently renovated a building in downtown Smithfield for its new store. Mr. Evans is a former mayor of Smithfield.
Life Membership, sponsored by Watson, Cooke & Jones, PA - Phil Taylor, who recently retired after a 32 year career in the financial services business, most recently with Raymond James.
Past Chair's Plaque - Crystal Roberts, who served as the Chair of the Chamber Board of Directors in 2015.
The Chamber also recognized its Ambassadors, Chamber Champion Sponsors and Board of Directors.
