Johnston County Highway Project Requires Temporary Closures

U.S. 70 will close four consecutive nights

WILSON’S MILLS – A series of overnight closures for U.S. 70 in Wilson’s Mills are slated to begin next week.

The closures are needed so a state highway contractor can set 10 concrete-reinforced girders for a bridge that will carry Swift Creek Road over U.S. 70. The bridge will form a new interchange at Swift Creek Road with ramps and loops that will replace what is currently a conventional intersection with a traffic signal.

The closures are scheduled to occur from midnight to 5 a.m. Oct. 10-13. The signed detours will be:

  • U.S. 70 East: Turn left onto Strickland Bridge Road, then right onto Wilson’s Mills Road, returning to U.S. 70.
  • U.S. 70 West: Turn right onto Wilson’s Mills Road, then left onto Strickland Bridge Road, returning to U.S. 70

Drivers should be alert near the work zone and factor a longer trip using the detours.

More information about upgrading this portion of U.S. 70 to interstate standards in Wilson’s Mills can found online.
