Triangle East Economic Development Foundation Receives $20,000 Grant from Duke Energy Foundation

The Triangle East Economic Development Foundation has been awarded a $20,000 grant from the Duke Energy Foundation as part of its 2025 Storm Preparedness grant program. This funding will empower local efforts to help Johnston County’s small business community become more resilient in the face of natural disasters and severe weather events.

The initiative will be launched in partnership with the Triangle East Chamber of Commerce and will focus on a structured six-month program aimed at equipping small business owners with the tools and knowledge needed to withstand disruptions. Program components will include a series of expert-led workshops, a business continuity toolkit tailored to small business needs, a crisis communication training program, and micro grants to support customized preparedness strategies.

“This grant represents a powerful investment in the long-term health and sustainability of Johnston County’s small businesses,” said Maureen McGuinness, President and CEO of the Triangle East Chamber of Commerce. “Thanks to the Duke Energy Foundation, we will be able to help our local businesses build resilience, reduce risk, and prepare for the unexpected.”

Duke Energy’s Storm Preparedness grant program supports communities across North Carolina in developing proactive measures to minimize storm-related disruptions. Triangle East’s program will serve as a model for rural and suburban business continuity, particularly in counties like Johnston that are frequently affected by hurricanes and severe weather.

Program details, including participation opportunities and micro grant applications, will be announced by the Triangle East Chamber. The Chamber’s Economic Development Committee will assist in disseminating information.
