SMITHFIELD, NC – After not having an Independence Celebration in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Downtown Smithfield Development Corporation, Smithfield Parks & Recreation, and Johnston Community College are excited to announce the return of 4th of July fireworks!
Smithfield’s 2021 4th of July Fireworks Display will be held at 9:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 4 at Johnston Community College. JCC parking lots will open for viewing only (no restrooms available) beginning at 8:00 p.m., and the fireworks display is set to begin at 9:00 p.m. in the field across from campus. In order to ensure the safety of attendees, College Road will be closed from Market Street to Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard from 8:45 p.m. until approximately 9:30 p.m.
“Although this year’s fireworks display will be different from the celebration that we typically have downtown, we are glad to be able to celebrate in a way that is safe for our community, and hope that our 2022 Independence Celebration can take place once again in the heart of Downtown Smithfield,” stated Sarah Edwards, DSDC Executive Director.
The Downtown Smithfield Development Corporation is seeking sponsors to pay for the cost of the fireworks display. For more information, please visit www.DowntownSmithfield.com.
