Craig Olive, Johnston County Register of Deeds, and several volunteers spent their Saturday assisting the citizens of Johnston County at the annual Shred Event. Citizens from across the county brought boxes and bags filled with sensitive and personal information to be shredded, protecting these citizens from the potential threat of identity fraud. This annual event marks the 16th year of hosting it. 10,500 lbs. of paper were shredded at this event.
The 2025 event was held at a new location, Rose Manor Shopping Center. The flow of traffic was much smoother at this location and the citizens complimented the volunteers on how easy this process was made at Rose Manor. “I would like to publicly thank Dan Heavner for the use of this parking lot to host the event.” states Olive. “I also would like to thank Boy Scouts of Troop 124 and the members of: Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. of Psi Sigma Omega, Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc., Chi Xi Zeta both chapters of Johnston County, and my office staff for their help in this year’s event.”
A long-time strong supporter of efforts to prevent identity fraud, Mr. Olive believes that his annual Shred Events are a great benefit to the citizens of Johnston County. Mr. Olive states “I will continue my efforts to prevent identity fraud as long as I am in public service. These annual shred events provide our citizens a free way to dispose of personal and sensitive information. The shredding of sensitive and personal documents is a proactive way to protect your identity and I am proud to sponsor these events.”
Sponsors for this year’s event included Hinson’s Printing, LGFCU Local Government Federal Credit Union, Civic Federal Credit Union, The Johnston County Report and InterState Outdoor, Inc.
The Shred Event has been an annual event for the Register of Deeds office since 2009 and Mr. Olive has no plans to discontinue this effort. “It is always a great success and I will continue to offer this free community event because I know that it is beneficial to our citizens,” states Mr. Olive.
