Home Sweet Home Opens in Downtown Smithfield, Bringing a New Destination for Gifts, Décor and Holiday Shopping

SMITHFIELD, NC — October 6, 2026 — Downtown Smithfield is welcoming a new small business just in time for the holiday shopping season. Home Sweet Home, a charming new gift and home décor shop, will celebrate its grand opening on Friday, October 16, and the community is invited to come celebrate!

A ribbon cutting will take place from 12:00–1:00 PM, followed by Maureen’s grand opening celebration continuing until 5:00 PM. Guests are encouraged to stop by throughout the afternoon to meet the owner, explore the new shop and discover all the fun treasures Home Sweet Home has to offer.

Maureen and her husband relocated to North Carolina from California a couple of years ago, where Maureen previously owned a large gift and home décor store. Her first business was wildly successful, and she quickly discovered that she missed the experience of being a shop owner.

It didn't take long for the entrepreneurial bug to bite again.

“We are thrilled to welcome Maureen to Downtown Smithfield,” said Heidi Gilmond, Executive Director of the Downtown Smithfield Development Corporation. “She brings experience, enthusiasm and a real love for creating a shopping experience people enjoy. Home Sweet Home is exactly the kind of unique, locally owned shop that adds energy and personality to our downtown, and we couldn't be happier to have her here.”

From candles and puzzles to holiday décor and fun gifts, Home Sweet Home is filled with treasures to discover. With the holiday season just around the corner, the new shop offers shoppers another reason to skip the big box stores and shop local in Downtown Smithfield.

Whether you're looking for a hostess gift, something special for a friend, a little something for yourself or a unique holiday find, Home Sweet Home promises plenty of inspiration.

The community is invited to stop by, meet Maureen, tour the new shop and celebrate this exciting addition to Downtown Smithfield during the grand opening and ribbon cutting on Friday, October 16, from noon to 1:00 PM.
