Downtown Smithfield Invites Community to Celebrate America's 250th with Independence Day Celebration

SMITHFIELD, NC – Downtown Smithfield is ready to celebrate America's 250th birthday in style with an evening of family fun, patriotic pride, great entertainment, and small-town charm on Thursday, July 3, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.

The Downtown Smithfield Independence Day Celebration promises something for everyone, with FREE activities and entertainment throughout the evening. Visitors can enjoy a classic hometown celebration featuring a car show hosted by Southland Car Club and CarStar Autobody, local vendors, games and activities for children, delicious food and beverages, and a community watermelon social featuring free slices of fresh watermelon grown right here in Johnston County.

The celebration will kick off on the Neuse River Amphitheater stage with the presentation of colors by the Civil Air Patrol Color Guard, followed by Revolutionary War reenactments that bring America's founding story to life as the nation marks its 250th anniversary.

Guests will also enjoy a full evening of live entertainment, beginning with Smithfield's own The WEJ, performing their original music and hometown favorites. The evening continues with Stealing Tonight, bringing an energetic mix of crowd-pleasing hits, before BC Big Band closes out the celebration with a high-energy performance leading up to the fireworks finale.

At 9:10 p.m., the skies above Downtown Smithfield will light up with a spectacular fireworks display celebrating America's birthday and 250 years of freedom, resilience, and community spirit.

"This year's celebration is especially meaningful as we join communities across the nation in commemorating America's 250th birthday," said Heidi Gilmond, Executive Director of the Downtown Smithfield Development Corporation. "We're proud to celebrate in a way that reflects the best of small-town America—bringing neighbors together for great music, family fun, local traditions, and a shared appreciation for our country's history."

The Downtown Smithfield Development Corporation extends its sincere appreciation to the sponsors whose generosity makes this celebration possible. Special thanks to Carolina Packers and Bright Leaf Hot Dogs, our Presenting Sponsor, along with Brightspeed, First Citizens Bank, KS Bank, Duke Energy, and Pirate's Pest Control for their continued commitment to Downtown Smithfield and our community.
