Downtown Smithfield Set to Celebrate Independence Day with Music, Food, and Fireworks

The Downtown Smithfield Development Corporation is excited to invite the community to a festive and family-friendly Independence Day Celebration on Thursday, July 3, 2025, in the heart of Downtown Smithfield!

Festivities begin at 5:00 p.m. with a Watermelon Social at the historic Hastings House, where guests can enjoy a fresh slice of locally grown watermelon, courtesy of local farms. Then, head over to the Neuse River Amphitheater for an evening packed with energy, live music, and patriotic spirit.

This year’s concert features Smithfield’s own rock band, The WEJ, followed by the dynamic sounds of DNR. The celebration wraps up with a dazzling fireworks display at dusk, lighting up the sky over the Neuse River in honor of our nation’s independence.

“We love seeing families, neighbors, and visitors come together to celebrate in such a classic small-town way,” said Heidi Gilmond, Executive Director of the Downtown Smithfield Development Corporation. “This is what community spirit is all about.”

The event is free and open to the public, with food trucks, local vendors, and activities for all ages throughout the evening. Guests are encouraged to bring chairs or blankets and come early to find a good spot.
