Choices Pregnancy Center: More Than a Pregnancy Test—A Trusted Resource for Families in Johnston County

SMITHFIELD, NC — For more than 20 years, Choices Pregnancy Center has been serving women, men, and families throughout Johnston County with one simple mission: to provide information, compassion, and support during pregnancy and early parenthood.

Founded in 2005 by Ann Earnest, Choices Pregnancy Center began after Ann sensed a deep calling to save babies, care for mothers, and transform lives. What started in a small office off Dail Street has grown into a thriving community resource. In 2024, the organization moved into its current location, expanding its ability to serve more families and meet the growing needs of Johnston County.

While many people know Choices Pregnancy Center as a place for pregnancy testing, that is only the beginning of the story.

Today, Choices serves women and families at every stage of pregnancy and early parenting—not only those facing an unexpected pregnancy. Whether a pregnancy is planned or unplanned, exciting or overwhelming, every client deserves access to accurate medical information, practical education, and compassionate support.

As a licensed medical pregnancy center, Choices provides free and confidential pregnancy testing, limited obstetrical ultrasounds, options education, prenatal education, parenting classes, fatherhood support, material assistance, and referrals to community resources. Families can continue receiving services throughout pregnancy and into infancy, equipping parents with the knowledge and confidence they need to care for their children.

“Our goal is not simply to help someone through one appointment,” said Grace Schupp, Development and Marketing Director. “We want every family who walks through our doors to know they have a place they can return to for encouragement, education, and practical support throughout their parenting journey.” 


Each year, hundreds of local families receive care through Choices Pregnancy Center. Many continue participating in educational programs, earning essential baby supplies through the Baby Boutique, connecting with community resources, and building relationships with staff who genuinely care about their well-being.

By focusing on holistic pregnancy education, Choices Pregnancy Center is helping families build stronger foundations for the future. The organization believes that supporting healthy families means caring for the emotional, practical, and spiritual needs of parents while creating a welcoming environment where everyone is treated with dignity and respect.

This fall, the community will have an opportunity to help continue that mission by attending the Choices Pregnancy Center Annual Fundraising Banquet. The evening will celebrate stories of hope, lives transformed, and the partnerships that make this work possible throughout Johnston County.

Community members, business leaders, churches, and civic organizations are invited to attend, host a table, or become an event underwriter. Their partnership helps ensure that every woman, every father, and every family who comes through the doors of Choices continues to receive compassionate care at no cost.
