Next Phase of Upcoming Closures Scheduled as Part of Complete 540 Project

RALEIGH – The North Carolina Turnpike Authority is continuing construction of the southern portion of the Complete 540 Project, which will extend the Triangle Expressway (Toll N.C. 540) from N.C. 55 Bypass to Interstate 40.  

The following key construction impacts have been outlined to assist in planning and navigating through upcoming closures: 

• Benson Road 
  • September 15 – September 19 
• West Lake Road 
  • September 16 – September 18 
• Holly Springs Road 
  • September 16 – September 19 
• N.C. 55 Bypass 
  • September 18 

Please see the additional details below with more information about each closure. Drivers may see flaggers on the roadway, should expect delays and should use caution when traveling through the work zone. 

Benson Road 

Beginning on or around Sunday, September 15 through Thursday, September 19 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. daily and 7:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. nightly, Benson Road between Cleveland School Road/Steven Oaks Drive and Turner Pond Drive/Golden Grain Drive is scheduled to experience temporary intermittent lane closures. 

West Lake Road 

Beginning on or around Monday, September 16 through Wednesday, September 18 from 9:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. nightly, West Lake Road between Lorbacher Road and Jamison Park Drive is scheduled to temporarily close to through traffic. Drivers should expect delays and should pay close attention when driving along the posted detour route. Drivers are strongly encouraged to avoid the area, if possible. If drivers must be in the area, they are advised to take the detour route by following signs along the roadway.  

Drivers wishing to access West Lake Road north of the closure will use the following detour route:    

• Drive east on Optimist Farm Road   
• Turn left onto Bells Lake Road   
• Turn left onto Ten Ten Road   
• Turn left onto West Lake Road    

Drivers wishing to access West Lake Road south of the closure will use the following detour route:    

• Drive east on Ten Ten Road   
• Turn right onto Bells Lake Road   
• Turn right onto Optimist Farm Road   
• Turn right onto West Lake Road  

Holly Springs Road 

Beginning on or around Monday, September 16 through Tuesday, September 17 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. daily, the northbound lanes of Holly Springs Road between Sunset Lake Road and Pierce Olive Road are scheduled to experience temporary intermittent lane closures. 

Additionally, on or around Wednesday, September 18 through Thursday, September 19 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. daily, the southbound lanes of Holly Springs Road between Sunset Lake Road and Pierce Olive Road are scheduled to experience temporary intermittent lane closures. 

N.C. 55 Bypass 

Beginning on or around Wednesday, September 18 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., the northbound lanes of N.C. 55 Bypass between Sportsmanship Way and East Williams Street are scheduled to experience temporary intermittent lane closures. 

Additionally, on or around Wednesday, September 18 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., the southbound lanes of N.C. 55 Bypass between Old Smithfield Road and East Williams Street are also scheduled to experience temporary intermittent lane closures.
