Market Plaza receives Visual Improvement Award
The Smithfield-Selma Chamber has presented its Visual Improvement Award to Market Plaza Center in downtown Smithfield. Bill Kennedy and Leo Daughtry own the property and have made parking lot improvements, installed new facades and added more visible signage. Market Plaza was once the site of Farmer’s Tobacco Warehouse, operated by Bill and Leo’s fathers. The warehouse was destroyed in a spectacular fire in the early 1960’s and was later rebuilt on US 301 (S. Bright Leaf Boulevard). Market Plaza Center, located in the 500 block of E. Market Street, is home to seven local businesses.
