JWL of Smithfield Accepting New Member Applications

Smithfield, N.C. --  The Junior Women's League of Smithfield (JWL) is excited to announce that it is currently accepting applications for new members for the second semester of the 2021-2022 league year.

JWL members have completed over 12,500 hours of service in Johnston County and raised $117,000 for league supported programs since the League was founded in 2015.  Women who are at least 22 years old and interested in serving Johnston County through volunteering are encouraged to apply to join the League.

“The members of JWL truly care about the communities and residents of Johnston County and give their time and energy to projects that have an impact in almost every town,” says Kristen Brown, VP of Membership.  “Whether it be through stocking our Blessing Boxes for those who need food or other basic necessities, helping to create the first diaper closet in the county through a donation drive, or utilizing our Peanut Butter Buddies initiative to assist Backpack Buddies programs at local schools so that no child in need will go hungry, JWL members know how to make a difference. I had researched the Junior Women’s League of Smithfield before moving here to find a way to meet people who had similar interests and decided that was the organization for me. Voluntarism holds a very special place in my heart and I’ve found that JWL offers so many worthwhile opportunities in Johnston County for its members. At this time of year, getting out into the community during the holidays and helping children make “magical” reindeer food is one of my favorite activities. I am so glad I found JWL of Smithfield to help fulfill that need in my life.”

Potential applicants are encouraged to attend one of the New Member Interest Meetings in order to learn more about the League and the ways it serves Johnston County, meet the Board of Directors and current members, and learn about the membership process. Meetings will take place at First Street Tavern in Clayton on November 9 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Fainting Goat Brewery in Benson on November 11 from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m., Coffee on Raiford in Selma on November 13 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and Double Barley Brewing in Smithfield on November 14 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Please visit our website at for the most up to date information on all of our New Member Interest Meetings. Additional information and applications are also available on our website.

The Junior Women's League of Smithfield is pleased to offer one full membership scholarship for the second semester of the 2021-2022 league year, in an effort to promote inclusivity for league members. The purpose of membership scholarships is to create opportunities for those women in our community who would like to make a difference in Johnston County, but cannot join the League due to financial hardship. The scholarship application deadline is December 1. The membership application deadline for the 2021-2022 league year is December 15, 2021.
