Gloria Brindle (center), who operates The Gilded Pear Brew House on Market Street, was honored as Smithfield's 2022 "Main Street Champion" at the N.C. Main Street Center's annual conference (she's in this photo posted on Facebook with N.C. Secretary of Commerce Machelle Baker Sanders and Kenny Flowers, Assistant Secretary for Rural Economic Development at the N.C. Department of Commerce).
After nearly two years of working to find the right location and overcoming many obstacles along the way, Gloria Brindle and her husband Troy signed a lease in January 2020 to open. Over the next several months, amid the uncertainty of a global pandemic, Gloria worked to bring her vision for a coffee shop and cafe offering "the pear necessities of life" to reality, finally opening in August 2020.
The Gilded Pear is a beautiful space at which members of the community gather for coffee, a meal, live music and trivia, and a variety of celebrations; they truly embrace the community in everything that they do. Gloria sets the bar high for downtown business owners from the exterior and storefront window displays to their participation in all of Downtown Smithfield's promotions and events.
