The Town of Smithfield is hosting the 1st River Rat Regatta in Smithfield on July 14th. There will be a ribbon cutting ceremony for the newly renovated boat ramp at 9:15am. The Regatta starts at 10am. Boats can be made of glue, cardboard, and duct tape only. Rules and regulations can be found on the town parks and recreation webpage. 2-man teams will paddle their boats from the boat ramp to Town Commons. There will be food trucks and vendors available on site. The band will start playing at 12pm. It is free to watch and free to participate.
The objective is to design and build a “river worthy” vessel using cardboard, duct tape, and glue that will successfully carry two passengers from a starting line at the boat ramp down the river to a finish line located at the 70 Hwy. Business bridge.
