Smithfield’s“Friends of the 4th” Celebration will be on South Third Street
Beach Music Icons– The Holiday Band to perform
The Downtown Smithfield Development Corporation and the Smithfield Parks and Recreation Department want to remind all area residents that this year’s fireworks display, scheduled for Tuesday, July 3 will be moved to South Third Street and launched from the middle of the street in Historic Downtown Smithfield.
“Traditionally the fireworks have been shot from the west side of the river, near Wallace Welding,” states Chris Johnson, Executive Director of the Downtown Smithfield Development Corporation. “But the DSDC spends thousands on the patriotic display and downtown businesses don’t get much of a boost. Front Street is a bit removed from the nighttime hotspots of the downtown core and we hope that moving the show to South Third Street will have a better business impact on the Howell Theatre and restaurants like Bistro on Third and Gandolfo’s New York Deli with revelers paying them a visit while they’re in town. I am confident the attendees are going to enjoy the show more than ever!”
Beginning at 6:00pm, the celebration will feature musical entertainment from the “The Holiday Band.” The independence celebration will conclude with a traditional fireworks display at 9:30 pm.
The Holiday Band has been together for nearly 21 years and has performed up and down the east coast, including the Lincoln Center inNew York, The House Of Blues in Myrtle Beach, Mardi Gras in Mobile, Alabama, and the Carnival cruise ship The Inspiration. Smithfield residents should recognize the group as they have performed in Smithfield during the monthly Third on Third summer concert series. The Holiday Band was voted Band of the Year in 2003 and 2009 at the Carolina Beach Music Awards and are known for their music versatility.
