The Johnston County Association of Chambers of Commerce will host two legislative events to educate its members on upcoming local legislation. The two events, a seminar and reception, will replace the legislative luncheon that has been held for a number of years at Johnston Community College. Aspect Financial of Smithfield will be the presenting sponsor of both events.
The first event will be a FREE seminar titled “How to Advocate for Legislation” on Tuesday, April 21 from 2-3 pm at the Smithfield-Selma Chamber office. This workshop will also be presented live as a webinar, if you are unable to attend in person.
Three local business leaders will give presentations on critical issues facing the General Assembly and give advice and tips on how you can advocate for these and other issues. The presenters, and their topics, will be as follows:
Donna Bailey-Taylor, executive director of the Johnston County Visitors Bureau, will focus on tourism issues, including transportation, and House Bill 107/SB 24, that the legislature is reviewing to allow NC distilleries, such as Broadslab Distillery near Benson, to sell spiritous liquors to their tour visitors.
April Culver, governmental affairs director for Johnston Health, will talk about several health care and hospital issues facing North Carolina, and how they impact Johnston Medical Centers in Smithfield and Clayton.
Chris Johnson, director of the Johnston County Economic Development Office, will make a presentation about the economic development tier structure in North Carolina and the need for incentives for North Carolina to remain competitive.
This event will be offered as a live seminar. If you wish to attend in person, please register online as seating is limited. If you cannot attend in person, please access the live webinar using the instructions below:
