We are pleased to announce the retirement of Hank Daniels, a dedicated and esteemed member of our community. Hank graduated from Smithfield-Selma High School, received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Wake Forest University, and a Masters in Professional Accountancy from Georgia State University. His career began as a Certified Public Accountant for Peat, Marwick and Mitchell in Atlanta, and Claud Dunn in Smithfield. Hank later transitioned to his family motel business, owning and operating the Village Motor Lodge, the Super 8 hotel and the Sleep Inn & Suites over an illustrious career.
Hank's commitment to the community is unparalleled. He is an active member of First Baptist Church in Smithfield, serving in many capacities. His contributions include leading as the United Way Campaign Chairman, served as Chairman of the Johnston County PTA/Advisor and as President of the Johnston County Mental Health Association. Hank chaired the Johnston County Tourism Authority for two years and currently serves as a Trustee at Johnston Community College. His dedication has been recognized with numerous awards, including the Distinguished Service Award from the Smithfield Jaycees, the Small Business Person of the Year from the Greater Smithfield-Selma Area Chamber of Commerce, the Honorable Heroes Award from Johnston County Schools and the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Triangle East Chamber of Commerce.
A proud supporter of the Boy Scouts, Hank served as Den Leader, Troop Treasurer, and Neusiok District Chairman, earning the Silver Beaver Award and the District Award of Merit.
Throughout his life, Hank has strived to make our community one of the best in North Carolina, touching the lives of many through his service and dedication. He is a loving husband, father of four, and grandfather of six. As he retires, we extend our heartfelt gratitude and best wishes for his future endeavors. Thank you, Hank, for your incredible contributions and unwavering commitment to our community.
