"The simply elegant pathway to learning".
The Smithfield-Selma Chamber Women's Business Network would like to invite you to our 2012 Spring Tea Scholarship Luncheon on Thursday, May 17th where we will be awarding our scholarship recipients. The CWBN is committed to helping women achieve their professional goals as they seek advanced degrees, certification, or professional development.
This year's event will feature Tyronna Hooker, North Carolina's 2011 Teacher of the Year, as our guest speaker. Mrs. Hooker has spent the last nine years teaching social studies and exceptional children at Graham Middle School in Graham, North Carolina. Upon completing high school in Elizabethtown, NC she went on to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice from North Carolina Central University. After earning her teacher certification, she furthered her education by graduating with a Master's degree in Education with a specialization in Special Education from Elon University.
Mrs. Hooker's original career goals did not involve teaching. She made a very conscious decision to enter the wonderful, ever-changing field of education after years of employment in the criminal justice system and employment with the Department of Social Services. Her perspective on education is different from other educators because in her experience most teachers excelled in education as a children, but as a student, she struggled in the classroom.
