Black History Month Celebrations
We are extremely grateful for these community volunteers who visited and celebrated Black History Month with us at our Selma and South Smithfield locations:
- Antoan Whidbee, Attorney
- Ava Gaines, Retired School Teacher
- Deborah Bolin, Johnston County Youth Services
- Dr. Eric Bracy, Superintendent of Johnston County Public Schools
- Irene Stancil, Owner/Operator of Stancil’s Grill
- Joe Scarboro, Mayor Pro-Tem Town of Selma
- Dr. Oliver Johnson, Pastor of Faith Missionary Baptist Church
- Riccobene Associates Family Dentistry
- Dr. Trevor Fraser, Johnston Family Dentistry
Our youth were inspired by the stories of our speakers. They were impressed by everything Irene Stancil still accomplishes at 91 years of age. Dr. Oliver Johnson shared a video about George Washington Carver. Deborah Bolin talked about the children’s march with Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Antoan Whidbee showed us how he is a kid at heart. Dr. Eric Bracy emphasized the importance of being safe at school. We are beyond grateful for the expertise of these community members, and the knowledge and stories they shared about Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Black History Month.
A very special thanks to Shirley Cohen for helping us coordinate an amazing Black History Month!
